In a powerful display of leadership and vision, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, earned high praise from the Chairman of the NBA Ibadan and other branch Chairmen during the first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of his administration. The event, held on November 7, 2024, at the Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu State, set a new standard with its prompt 9:00 a.m. start, signaling a commitment to professionalism and timeliness within the association.
This first NEC meeting under President Osigwe’s administration attracted an impressive turnout, including Enugu State’s Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai Esq., the state’s Attorney General, President of the African Bar Association, respected Senior Advocates of Nigeria, over eight past general secretaries, branch Chairmen and Secretaries from across the country.
In his opening address, President Osigwe issued a strong call for ending the long-standing “African time” culture within the NBA, declaring that every NBA activity must start and end on time.
The Chairman of the Ibadan Branch, Ibrahim Lawal while speaking during the NEC meeting stated “That the President Speech is in tandem with what the Bar stood for in the past, particularly on the issues of discipline of our members.”
Lawal further noted that Osigwe’s commitment to re-establishing the NBA as a vibrant and efficient voice for Nigerian lawyers is a significant and welcome shift for the association.
The NBA-NEC unanimously adopted the address of the NBA President and approved the implementation of the proposals contained therein.
The meeting also highlighted the Importance of dress code during such formal proceeding.
