ECNBA Notice No. 3: Aspirants to the General Council of the Bar

NOTICE NO. 3: REQUEST FOR LETTER OF EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FROM ANY ASPIRANT FOR ELECTION AS A MEMBER REPRESENTING NBA IN THE GENERAL COUNCIL OF THE BAR IN THE NBA ELECTIONS 2026

  1. Pursuant to Sections 7(1), (2) and (3) & S.10 of the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2015 (as amended in 2025) and the Second Schedule thereof, any aspirant interested in being elected as one of the eighteen (18) representatives from the three (3) Zones (East, West and North) of the Nigerian Bar Association in the General Council of the Bar pursuant to Section 1(2)(c) of the Legal Practitioners Act is requested to comply with this Notice No. 3.
  2. Each Zone shall produce a minimum of six (6) members (out of the 18 slots for the entire 3 Zones) who shall hold office for a term of two (2) years.
  3. Any member of the Association seeking election into the General Council of the Bar shall be qualified for such election if he/she:
    i. is a full member of the Association;
    ii. has paid, as and when due, as at the date of his/her nomination, the Bar Practicing Fees and Branch dues for three (3) consecutive years inclusive of the year of the election (2026);
    iii. must be in private legal practice;
    iv. must have, at any time not less than two (2) years prior to his/her nomination, been a member of the National Executive Council or served as a Branch Executive Officer or Member of Executive Committee/Governing Council of a Section or Forum in the Association, UNLESS he is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
  4. At least two (2) of the Aspirants from each of the Zones shall not be of less than ten (10) years post call.
  5. All persons desirous of contesting for election as a member of the General Council of the Bar in the NBA 2026 elections shall submit a Letter of Expression of Interest on or before 23rd February, 2026.
  6. The Letter, which should be written on the Applicant’s Letter-Headed Paper (with telephone numbers (WhatsApp) and email addresses), should be signed personally by him/her (not by a proxy or agent) and must contain:
    a. Full names as enrolled in the Supreme Court Rolls and current names if different from the ones in the SC Rolls;
    b. Supreme Court Enrollment Number;
    c. Year of Call to the Bar;
    d. Branch Name;
    e. Physical Address of Chambers;
    f. Confirmation or otherwise of NEC membership and/or Branch Executive and/or Section and/or Forum as prescribed by the NBA Constitution;
    g. Confirmation of payments of Practicing Fees and Branch Dues as and when due as prescribed.
  7. The Letter, which must be accompanied with clear, clean, legible, current and valid photo ID of the Applicant (ECOWAS/Nigerian Passport data page or NIN Slip/Card, or Voters Card (PVC) or Driver’s License) and other supporting documents, should be addressed to:

    ECNBA Secretariat,
    NBA House, 24 Oro Ago Street, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

  8. Soft copies of the Letter and all supporting documents should be sent to the ECNBA 2026 email address: info@ecnba.org.ng, while the hard versions should be sent via courier to the Secretariat as stated above.

Applicants have till 5:00 p.m. on 23rd February, 2026 to comply with all the requirements contained in this Notice No. 3.
