The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has published the timetable of outstanding activities for the 2026 NBA National Officers and General Council of the Bar (GCB) Elections, reaffirming that the elections will hold as scheduled on Monday, July 20, 2026.
In a notice issued from the ECNBA Secretariat at NBA House, No. 9 Oro-Ago Street, Garki, Abuja, the Committee stated that the timetable is directed principally at candidates, their supporters, eligible voters, and all stakeholders in the electoral process.
According to the Committee, the published schedule outlines the remaining milestones leading to the conclusion of the electoral process. All concerned stakeholders have been urged to take note of the dates and make the necessary preparations to participate fully in the elections.
The campaign period is scheduled to commence on June 10 and run until July 18, 2026, during which candidates may canvass support through lawful means in accordance with the NBA Constitution and ECNBA guidelines.
Other key activities include the completion of voting platform configuration on June 15, followed by independent penetration testing and security certification between June 16 and 18.
The ECNBA Election Magazine, containing candidates’ manifestos and curricula vitae, is expected to be published on June 18.
The Committee will also conduct data protection training for ECNBA and NEC members on June 20, while trial SMS and email messages will be sent to all eligible voters between June 22 and 27 to verify accessibility and platform readiness.
Members who do not receive trial messages or identify any errors have until July 5, 2026, to lodge complaints for resolution. Authentication and platform readiness testing will also take place between July 4 and 5.
As part of voter education efforts, zonal and branch sensitization sessions are scheduled for July 1 to 5, while the first hybrid debate session for candidates seeking the offices of President, Vice Presidents, and General Secretary will hold on July 8.
Campaign activities will officially end on July 18, with July 19 designated as a campaign-free day ahead of the election.
On Election Day, July 20, 2026, voting will open at 12:00 a.m. WAT and close at 11:59 p.m. WAT. Eligible voters are required to complete authentication using their Supreme Court Number (SCN) and One-Time Password (OTP) before casting their votes. The Committee emphasized that no vote will be accepted after the close of polls.
Following the election, collation, audit validation, and security verification of results will take place from July 20 to 21, while the official declaration of election results is scheduled for July 21, 2026.
Candidates wishing to challenge the outcome of the elections have until July 27, 2026, to file election petitions. The National Officers Election Appeals Committee is expected to determine all petitions by August 18, 2026.
