NBA Remuneration Committee Urges Lawyers to Report Undercharging, Enforce Remuneration Order 2023

NBA Remuneration Committee Intensifies Enforcement of Remuneration Order 2023, Constitutes Sub-Committees to Consider Petitions

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Remuneration Committee has renewed its call on legal practitioners across the country to support the enforcement of the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023 by reporting cases of professional undercharging.

In a renewed awareness campaign, the Committee emphasized that compliance with the Remuneration Order is a professional obligation and a critical step towards preserving the integrity, dignity, and economic sustainability of the legal profession.

Chairman of the Committee, Emeka Obegolu, SAN, stated that undercharging devalues legal services, undermines professional standards, and creates unfair competition within the Bar. He urged lawyers to remain vigilant and promptly report any violations through the appropriate channels.

According to the Committee, safeguarding the profession is a collective responsibility, requiring every legal practitioner to uphold ethical billing practices and maintain the standards expected of members of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Lawyers are encouraged to report cases of undercharging by emailing remuneration@nigerianbar.org.ng or contacting the Programme Officer, Stella Charles Akupue, on 08033888791.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening compliance with the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023, the Committee stressed that the legal profession must continue to be built on fairness, professionalism, and respect for established standards.
