Distinguished Colleague,
The newly sworn-in 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, FCIArb, has delivered her inaugural address following her assumption of office at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Chief Judge’s Ceremonial Court, Rivers State High Court Complex, Port Harcourt, on Friday, 28 August 2026.
In her address, titled “From the Call to the Cause,” the President reflects on her 24-year journey in the legal profession and the responsibility of taking up the leadership of the Association. She describes the mandate as a trust to be discharged and outlines her vision for an NBA that is more responsive to the everyday realities, professional needs and aspirations of its members.
Central to the address is the administration’s commitment to “Members First. Always.” and the building of a Bolder Bar—one that works for its members, promotes professional and economic dignity, expands opportunities, strengthens inclusion and modernises the delivery of services to lawyers.
The President also sets out a number of immediate priorities and speaks to the future of the Association, including professional development, technology and emerging areas of legal practice, access to opportunities, welfare, transparency and accountability, electoral reform, and the NBA’s continuing responsibility to defend the rule of law and contribute to national development.
