On Thursday, the 17th day of September, 2026 the President of the NBA Mrs. Oyinkasola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN attended her first meeting of the Body of Benchers in her capacity as the President of the NBA.
She was warmly received by members of the Body of Benchers, including the Chairman of the Body of Benchers and Life Bencher, HRM Albert Akpomudje, SAN; former Chief Justice of Nigeria and Life Bencher, Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed, GCON; the first female Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Mrs. Hairat Balogun, OON; former Chief Justice of Nigeria and Life Bencher, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON; former Chairman of the Body of Benchers and former NBA President, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN; Life Bencher and former NBA President, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN; Life Bencher and former NBA President, J.B. Daudu, SAN; Life Bencher and former NBA President, Paul Usoro, SAN; Life Bencher, Y.C. Maikyau, SAN, OON; and 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.
During the meeting, the NBA President was appointed to an Ad Hoc Committee mandated to examine issues relating to appeals arising from proceedings of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), particularly in light of the recent decision of the Supreme Court in Ben Mene-Ejegi v. Nigerian Bar Association & Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
The Committee will be chaired by Hon. Justice K. B. Akaahs, JSC (Rtd.). By the constitution of this Committee, the Benchers has signaled a renewed drive towards restoring clarity and ensuring that appeals connected to LPDC disciplinary outcomes proceed in line with the Supreme Court’s direction.
This appointment is a testament to the President’s unwavering commitment towards contributing meaningful to the work of the Body of Benchers and to the continued advancement of the legal profession and the rule of law.
This meeting marks the beginning of the President’s engagement with the Body of Benchers as the President of the NBA.
