The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is pleased to notify members of a landmark multilingual webinar being organized by the Arusha Initiative on the 2027 Vacancies within the African Human Rights Mechanisms, scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The webinar will convene representatives of African Union Member States, National Human Rights Institutions, Bar Associations, Civil Society Organizations, students, youth groups, and other stakeholders from across the continent to deliberate on the upcoming vacancies within the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The objectives of the webinar include:
• Presentation of the 2027 Vacancy Situation Report in English, French, Portuguese, and Arabic;
• Mobilization of civil society organizations and citizens across Africa to actively engage in the nomination and selection process for these important continental institutions;
• Introduction of new participants to the Arusha Initiative and expansion of its pan-African network of stakeholders committed to strengthening Africa’s human rights architecture.
Members of the Bar are therefore encouraged to participate in this important webinar and contribute meaningfully to discussions surrounding the future leadership and effectiveness of Africa’s human rights institutions.
