The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has released its Preliminary Report on the Ekiti State Governorship Election held on 20 June 2026, following a comprehensive observation mission deployed across the State.
Led by Festus Okoye, Esq., Chairman of the NBA Election Working Group, the mission monitored the conduct of the election in all 16 Local Government Areas, assessing voter accreditation, voting procedures, security arrangements, compliance with electoral laws, and the overall integrity of the electoral process.
While the NBA observed that the election was generally peaceful, orderly, and marked by adequate deployment of election officials and security personnel, it expressed concern over widespread incidents of vote-buying, voter inducement, and isolated technical challenges associated with BVAS operations.
The Association has called on relevant authorities to investigate reported electoral malpractices, strengthen enforcement mechanisms, and continue reforms aimed at enhancing the credibility, transparency, and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
