The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has released a revised timetable for the outstanding activities leading to the 2026 NBA National Elections, announcing that the election date has been moved from Monday, July 20, 2026 to Saturday, July 18, 2026.
According to the Committee, the decision was reached following its meeting with candidates on July 2, 2026, and after considering requests from critical stakeholders who urged that the election be held on a weekend to enable wider participation by eligible voters, in line with previous NBA elections.
The ECNBA stated that the revised timetable was issued pursuant to its powers under the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2025) and is intended to promote a more inclusive, transparent and credible electoral process.
The Committee confirmed that official election results will now be declared on Sunday, July 19, 2026, and noted that the revised timetable supersedes all previous schedules to the extent of any inconsistency.
Among the key activities outlined in the timetable are voter sensitisation sessions across the Northern, Western and Eastern zones, branch-by-branch publication of eligible voters, a two-day verification window, a hybrid debate for candidates, publication of the final voters’ register, mock voting exercises, security audits of the electronic voting platform, and the cessation of all campaign activities by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026.
On Election Day, Saturday, July 18, 2026, voting will open at 12:00 a.m. WAT and close at 11:59 p.m. WAT, with all eligible voters required to complete authentication using their SCN and OTP before casting their votes. Accredited agents of candidates will be permitted at the ECNBA Secretariat throughout the voting process.
Following the election, collation, audit validation and security verification of results will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, after which the official results will be declared. Election petitions must be filed no later than Saturday, July 25, 2026, while the National Officers Election Appeals Committee is expected to determine all petitions by Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, transparent, all-inclusive and credible 2026 NBA National Election and encouraged members with questions or concerns to contact info@ecnba.org.ng.
The revised timetable is dated July 3, 2026, and is signed by Aham Ejelam, SAN, Chairman, ECNBA 2026, and Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, Esq., Secretary, ECNBA 2026.
