The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has called for nominations from eligible members for the election of National Officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Representatives of the NBA in the General Council of the Bar (GCB). The request for nominations was made pursuant to Section 10 of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015 (as amended in 2025) and Parts III and IV of the Second Schedule to the Constitution.
According to the Committee, intending candidates are required to obtain nomination forms from the ECNBA Secretariat, No. 9 Oro Ago Crescent, Garki, Abuja, or download same through info@ecnba.org.ng. The Secretariat will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 hours daily, except Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, for the issuance and receipt of completed nomination forms and accompanying documents.
Candidates must be nominated by a member of the NBA and seconded by another member who is qualified to vote for the office being contested, in line with the provisions of the NBA Constitution. Each candidate is also required to submit, alongside the nomination form, a Curriculum Vitae not exceeding four pages of A4-size paper, a comprehensive manifesto, and other campaign materials for possible publication on the NBA website and official media platforms.
The Committee further stated that nominations must comply with the constitutional provisions on zoning and eligibility as contained in Part VII (a–e) of the Second Schedule, which require that candidates must be Nigerian citizens, must not be members of any registered political party in Nigeria, must not have been adjudged bankrupt or entered into compromise with creditors, must not have been declared mentally unfit by a competent medical authority, and must not have been convicted of any crime involving fraud or dishonesty or found guilty of professional misconduct by the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
Hard copies of duly completed nomination forms, accompanied by supporting documents, must be submitted in sealed envelopes clearly marked “ECNBA 2026,” indicating the name of the candidate and the office being contested.
Submissions must be physically delivered or sent through a reputable registered courier company on or before Wednesday, April 8, 2026, to: The Secretary, Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), ECNBA Secretariat, No. 9 Oro Ago Crescent, Garki, Abuja.
The Committee emphasized that any unsealed envelope will be rejected, and once a nomination form is submitted and accepted, it cannot be retrieved or withdrawn. Candidates may notify the Secretary of already submitted and acknowledged forms via info@ecnba.org.ng.
Members are advised to carefully study the provisions of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015 (as amended in 2025) and its schedules for proper guidance.
