Distinguished Colleagues,
At the International Bar Association Council meeting held in Paris on November 2nd, 2023, the NBA President, Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau OON, SAN, made a strong case for Nigerian lawyers who registered for the 2022 and 2023 IBA Conferences in Miami and Paris, respectively, but were unable to travel due to visa denial or delay in securing visa appointments.
At the meeting, the president urged the IBA Council to consider applying the conference fees paid by the affected members to subsequent IBA Conference registration.
In view of this engagement, the Bar Issues Commission of the IBA has now requested the list of affected members to facilitate a possible resolution of the issue at the forthcoming Council meeting in Bucharest on May 25, 2024.
Our colleagues affected by the above are hereby advised to forward their details with proof of registration to the General Secretary no later than Monday, May 20th, 2024.
