“Sacrilegious and Unacceptable” – NBA Human Rights Institute Condemns Murder of Ifeanyi Iloakasi, Demands Swift Justice

The NBA HRI at its headquarters has strongly condemned the tragic and gruesome murder of a seasoned legal practitioner who is also President General of Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area and his client at Nanka/Agula boundary in Orumba North LGA, after a court seating.

The NBA HRI following the incident, described the act as “heinous, barbaric, sacrilegious and unacceptable”, calling for a thorough forensic investigation and swift justice for the victims, their families, the NBA and the Nigerian society at large.

According to reports available to the NBA HRI leadership, led by Sabastine Anyia Esq, Barr Ifeanyi and his client on 14th May, 2025 who were arriving from a court sitting, were allegedly shot dead under suspicious circumstances sparking outrage within the legal community and among citizens. The NBA HRI emphasizes the importance of protecting legal professionals in the discharge of their duties and warns that attack on lawyers threatens the rule of law and integrity of the justice system.

The NBA HRI calls on heads of security agencies particularly the Inspector General of Police, Director General of DSS to act swiftly in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that such incident do not repeat. The NBA HRI also appeals to the Governors and The President to put in place collaborative efforts and modalities to forestall security breaches.

We also offers condolences to the families of the deceased, friends, well wishers, the Nigerian society and legal profession and pledges unalloyed support in seeking justice for all.
