The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between legal institutions and public agencies tasked with protecting the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers.
The NBA delegation led by the General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara highlighted the Association’s vast membership base and professional capacity as key assets in advancing the mutual goals of both institutions. Dr. Ojibara proposed joint training programs for legal professionals and NSITF employees, as well as collaborative advocacy campaigns to promote social insurance compliance and worker protections across all sectors.
“We have the professional capacity and platform to support legal compliance initiatives and provide certification training to build capacity among your workforce,” Ojibara stated. “Through advocacy, we can also amplify awareness and engagement on workers’ rights and employer responsibilities.”
Reacting, the Managing Director of NSITF, Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, welcomed the initiative and expressed enthusiasm about what he called a “natural synergy” between both institutions.
“The NBA is robust enough to serve as a medium for advocacy,” Mr. Faleye said. “We believe that anything that advances the protection of workers aligns perfectly with our mandate.”
He further emphasized the need for NBA leadership to ensure internal compliance within its own secretariat, adding that leading by example would set the tone for broader industry engagement.
“Compliance is what we do. Any training or collaboration that expands knowledge among stakeholders is welcome,” he added. “As part of our ongoing institutional reforms, we’re reviewing our legal frameworks, and we believe collaboration with the NBA will give this process the credibility it deserves.”
Mr. Faleye also disclosed that the NSITF has resolved to actively participate in the NBA Annual General Conference (AGC) as part of its commitment to building stronger relationships with legal professionals and enhancing legal awareness on workers’ rights.
