NBA-YLF Visit to Nigeria Data Protection Commission Ahead of Data Protection Awareness Training For Young Lawyers

As part of preparations for the upcoming NBA-YLF Data Protection Awareness and Training Programme, the Emerging Practice Areas Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association – Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

The meeting was held at the Commission’s conference room, with the Commissioner represented by the Head of Legal for Enforcement and Regulation.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

  •  Presentation of a proposed collaboration between the NBA-YLF and NDPC aimed at training young lawyers on privacy awareness and data protection.
  • Exploration of opportunities for young lawyers to become licensed Data Protection Officers.
  • Discussions on the possibility of discounted training packages for YLF members.

Outcome:

The NDPC representative welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and essential in promoting national data privacy awareness.

While no definite commitment was made regarding discounts, the Commission expressed willingness to explore a collaborative partnership, acknowledging the importance of preparing young legal professionals for roles in the digital economy.

Next Steps:

The Young Lawyers Forum will await formal feedback from the NDPC on areas of collaboration, including possible support for the upcoming training event.
