Statement by the Chairperson, Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), on the Occasion of International Women Judges Day

Today, we join the global community in celebrating International Women Judges Day, a day set aside to recognize and honour the invaluable contributions of women judges to the administration of justice and the strengthening of the rule of law.

Women judges continue to play a vital role in ensuring that justice systems are more inclusive, representative, and responsive to the realities of society. Through their dedication, integrity, and professionalism, they have not only enriched judicial decision-making but have also inspired generations of women and girls to pursue careers in law and public service.

In Nigeria and across the world, women on the bench have demonstrated remarkable leadership, courage, and commitment to fairness and equality before the law. Their presence in the judiciary contributes meaningfully to balanced perspectives in the interpretation and application of the law, reinforcing public confidence in our justice institutions.

On this important day, the NBAWF celebrates all Women Judges whose work continues to uphold justice, protect human rights, and strengthen democratic governance. We also acknowledge the pioneers who paved the way and the emerging generation of female jurists who continue to break barriers in the legal profession.

While we celebrate progress, we also reaffirm the importance of continued efforts to promote gender equality within the judiciary and across the legal profession. Ensuring that women have equal opportunities to serve and lead within judicial institutions remains essential to building a more equitable and just society.

The NBAWF remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage the advancement, mentorship, and recognition of women in the judiciary and the wider legal profession.

To all women judges in Nigeria and around the world, we celebrate your service, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to justice.

Happy International Women Judges Day.
