The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gombe Branch, has unveiled Hon. Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, JCA, Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, as Chairman of the Bar, Bench and Legislative Forum at its 2026 Law Week scheduled for 18th May 2026.
A jurist of remarkable distinction, Justice Barka was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1980 and commenced his judicial career in 1981 as a Magistrate in Bauchi State.
His steady and meritorious rise saw him appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Bauchi State in 1991, elevated to the Federal High Court in 2006, and subsequently to the Court of Appeal in 2014.
His Lordship has served across several divisions of the Court of Appeal, including Benin, Ilorin, Akure, Calabar, and Abuja, where he currently presides as the Presiding Justice.
With a judicial career spanning over 45 years, Hon. Justice Barka is widely celebrated as a gentleman of the highest order, hardworking, even-tempered, and an exemplary team player. His enduring contributions to the judiciary reflect deep commitment, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty to national service.
As Chairman of the Bar, Bench and Legislative Forum, his wealth of experience and leadership is expected to enrich discussions and set a high tone for the 2026 Law Week.
