The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Calabar Branch will commence its 2026 Bar Week on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, with a Legal Clinic, a flagship outreach initiative through which legal practitioners will offer free professional advice and services to members of the public.
The Legal Clinic, designed to expand access to justice, will provide an opportunity for individuals to receive guidance on a wide range of legal issues at no cost. The initiative reflects the Bar’s continued commitment to community service and the promotion of the rule of law.
Activities marking the opening day will also include a City Walk by members of the Bar, beginning at the Judiciary Headquarters, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar, and proceeding through major routes across the metropolis.

The walk is expected to raise awareness about the Bar Week and reinforce the presence of the legal profession within the community.
The day will conclude with a historic cocktail reception to be hosted by the Chief Judge of Cross River State and Chairman of the Cross River State Judicial Service Commission, Honourable Justice Akon B. Ikpeme.
The week long programme will feature a keynote lecture to be delivered by Prof. C. J. Dakas, Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, alongside panel discussions centered on the theme: “The Rule of Law, Safeguarding Democracy, Ensuring Accountability.”
Other highlights include a Bar-Bench Forum, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the judiciary and legal practitioners, as well as a Dinner and Awards Night to celebrate excellence within the profession.
The 2026 Bar Week is expected to draw participation from stakeholders within the legal profession and the wider public, fostering dialogue, accountability, and a deeper appreciation of the rule of law in the society.
