On Monday, the 31st day of August, 2026, a delegation comprising the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Prince I. Azubuike, the Chairman of NBA Port Harcourt Branch, Dr. Chinedu Maduba, members of the Branch Executive Committee and family members of Late Anthony Obodo paid a courtesy visit to the DCP, Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and later to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, to express concern and seek clarifications regarding the death of Mr. Anthony Obodo, who died on Thursday the 27th day of August, 2026 under circumstances that have generated concern among family members and members of the public.
The purpose of the visit was to:
1. Bring the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Anthony Obodo to the attention of the Commissioner of Police.
2. Request that the matter be thoroughly investigated.
3. Seek justice and accountability where any wrongdoing is established.
4. Encourage the Police Command to maintain peace and reassure the affected family and members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in seeing that justice is served.
5. Request appropriate updates on the progress and outcome of the investigation.
During the visit, the delegation presented the concerns surrounding the death of Mr. Anthony Obodo who was shot by officers of the Nigerian Police Force to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command and appealed to the him for a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation.
The Commissioner of Police listened to the issues raised and acknowledged the concerns expressed by the delegation. The Commissioner of Police assured the delegation that the matter will be given appropriate attention and that the Police Command will take necessary steps to establish the facts surrounding the death of Late Anthony Obodo.
The delegation emphasized the importance of conducting the investigation professionally and without prejudice, particularly because of the impact of the incident on the deceased’s family and the larger society.
At the end of the meeting, the police officers that were directly involved in the murder of Late Anthony Obodo were brought before the Delegation. The Commissioner of Police assured the delegation that the Orderly Room Trial will commence immediately and the Police Command would look into the matter and take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
The delegation appreciated the Commissioner for the audience and for the assurances given concerning the matter.
The visit was successful in bringing the concerns surrounding the death of Late Anthony Obodo directly to the attention of the Commissioner of Police.
The delegation further appealed to members of the bereaved family to remain calm and allow the police carry out their responsibilities while the investigation is ongoing.
