When Fear Walks the Streets, What Becomes of Justice and the Rule of Law?

In a time of rising security concerns, increasing self-defence debates, and growing public anxiety over safety and justice, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Garki Branch, Liberty Bar, is set to host a gripping and timely panel session at its 2026 Law Week themed: “Security, Self-defence and the Rule of Law.”

The highly anticipated session will bring together legal minds, security experts, and law enforcement representatives to examine the delicate balance between citizens’ rights, public safety, and the administration of justice in Nigeria.

The panel session will feature respected voices including Okey Leo Ohagba, Esq, Past National Officer of the NBA; CSP Unung Hillary Ubanaye (PhD); and a representative of the Legal Department of the Nigeria Police Force, while Mr. Francis Amedu, Esq will serve as Moderator.

As insecurity continues to dominate national discourse, this conversation is expected to spark critical reflections on lawful self-defence, citizens’ protection, policing, accountability, and the role of the legal profession in safeguarding democratic order.

Members of the Bar, the Bench, security stakeholders, civil society actors, students, and the general public are invited to attend what promises to be one of the most thought-provoking sessions of the NBA Garki Law Week 2026.

The conversation is no longer optional. The questions are real. The time is now.
