NBA Anti-Money Laundering Committee Launches Data Collection Exercise for Nigeria’s National Risk Assessment 2026–2027

The Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NBAAMLC) has commenced a strategic data collection exercise as part of the legal sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s National Risk Assessment (NRA) 2026–2027.

According to the Committee, the exercise is critical to consolidating the gains recorded following Nigeria’s landmark removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List in 2025.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening the legal profession’s role in promoting global financial integrity standards and safeguarding Nigeria’s financial system from abuse.

The NBAAMLC noted that since the gazetting of the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) 2023, legal practitioners across the country have increasingly embraced their responsibilities as “Gatekeepers” in combating money laundering and illicit financial activities.

The Committee explained that the data being collected will provide empirical insight into emerging vulnerabilities within the legal sector, while also assessing the effectiveness of existing compliance and internal control mechanisms adopted by practitioners and law firms.

It further stated that the information gathered will assist the NBAAMLC in shaping a robust supervisory framework capable of protecting legal practitioners from being inadvertently exploited for unlawful financial schemes, while defending the integrity of the profession.

The Committee emphasized that the exercise is entirely anonymous, assuring members of the Bar that no personal details of respondents are being collected through the form.

Interested legal practitioners are encouraged to participate through the official survey link below:
