The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that Augustine Oyarekhua Alegeh, SAN, FCIArb. (UK), CON, DSSRS, will deliver the Presidential Dinner Speech at the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference (AGC), scheduled to take place in Enugu from August 22nd to 29th, 2025. The Presidential Dinner will take place on Monday, 25th August 2025, at 7:00 PM.
Alegeh, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Past President of the NBA, is renowned for his contributions to the advancement of the legal profession in Nigeria and his active engagement in global legal discourse.
Born on 10th August 1964, he hails from Ikabigbo in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. He attended St. George’s Primary School, Lagos, Edo College, Benin City, and the University of Benin, where he obtained his Law degree in 1985. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, he distinguished himself at the Bar Qualifying Examinations by winning the prestigious Bola Ajibola Prize for Civil Procedure.
Over the past 37 years, Alegeh has built a thriving legal career as the Founding Partner of A.O. Alegeh & Co., with offices in Benin, Lagos, and Abuja. He was appointed a Notary Public in 1991, elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2007, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom. He is also an alumnus of Keble College, Oxford University.

Alegeh’s leadership has extended beyond private practice. He served as President of the Nigerian Bar Association, sat as a member of the National Judicial Council, and continues to serve as a Life Bencher. He is equally an active member of the International Bar Association.
His service and dedication have earned him national and state honours, including the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS).
The NBA describes his upcoming address at the Presidential Dinner as a moment of reflection and inspiration for the legal community, bringing together senior members of the Bar, young lawyers, policymakers, and stakeholders to celebrate the profession while charting a progressive path forward.
Alegeh, who is happily married with children, is expected to deliver a speech that will resonate with the theme of the 2025 AGC, “Stand Out, Stand Tall”, and inspire delegates toward excellence in law and nation-building.
