Enugu, Nigeria — The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has confirmed that Prof. Obijiofor Aginam, Director of the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Education for Peace & Sustainable Development in New Delhi, India, will serve as a panelist at the NBA Annual General Conference (AGC) 2025 in Enugu.
The breakout session, themed “Thirty Years After Beijing,” is slated for Monday, 25th August 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the International Conference Centre.
It will revisit the historic 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, considered a turning point in the global pursuit of gender equality, to assess the gains of the past three decades, the persisting challenges, and the new opportunities ahead for women’s rights and empowerment.

Prof. Aginam, a distinguished scholar of international law and global governance, brings decades of experience from his leadership roles at UNESCO, the United Nations University in Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur, and advisory work with the World Health Organization in Geneva.
His expertise in education for peace, sustainable development, and human rights is expected to provide a unique global perspective on how inclusive education and governance frameworks can help drive gender equality in Nigeria and beyond.
The session is part of the broader NBA AGC 2025 theme, “Stand Out, Stand Tall”, which aims to inspire legal professionals and thought leaders to engage in transformative dialogue on justice, equality, and social progress.
