The Citizens’ Liberties Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association has decried the persistent disobedience and lack of enforcement of Court judgments/Orders by government institutions and some powerful individuals in the society.
The Chairman of the Committee, Nuhu J. Egya, Esq., expressed his dissatisfaction to pressmen and analysts regarding these continuous events. In his words, “It is quite uncomfortable that today, many Court Orders remain unenforced and disobeyed – an attitude capable of eroding the trust and confidence of the people in the judiciary.”
Among the plethora of court orders and judgments not obeyed, the Chairman cited the judgment of the Court of Appeal ordering the reinstatement of Comrade Tajudeen Baruwa as President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which was rejected by the Federal Government.

He continued thus, “In March 2025, the Federal High Court declared the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan illegal and recommended the senate to recall her, but the same has not been complied with; instead, the senate converted the suspension to an indefinite suspension. It is also shocking that the Federal Government has failed to obey and enforce a judgment in its favour, where the Supreme Court affirmed the autonomy of local governments and ordered direct payment of monthly statutory allocations to 774 local governments.”
The Chairman called on the President of the Federal Repulbic of Nigeria and the Senate to obey and enforce all pending court orders across the nation. The Chairman noted that he is mindful of the fact that the national leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association Under Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN was not oblivious of this development and would react in line with its proactive mantra.
