The recent Mentorship Event organized by the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Oyo State Chapter, in Ibadan was a remarkable and impactful gathering that inspired and empowered participants.
Themed “Promoting Professional Excellence, Ethics, and Values Amongst Female Lawyers,” the event centred on equipping female lawyers with the necessary tools to succeed while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Chinyere Okorocha, Chairperson of the NBA Women Forum, eloquently outlined the forum’s mission, emphasising its commitment to promoting the well-being of female lawyers. She highlighted the importance of this support in enabling female lawyers to excel both in their careers and society at large.
Professor Oluyemisi Abimbola, Dean of Law at Lead City University, Ibadan, delivered the keynote address. Her address was a treasure trove of career insights enriched by practical examples from her experiences. Professor Abimbola’s advice resonated deeply with attendees, offering invaluable guidance on navigating the legal profession.
A highlight of the event was the panel discussion, where senior female lawyers shared their vast knowledge and experience. They addressed the challenges posed by perceived declining professional standards and underscored female lawyers’ vital role in maintaining discipline and excellence.
The event also featured a speed mentorship session, where mentors and mentees engaged in open and candid discussions. This session was particularly impactful for young lawyers, especially those in their first five years at the bar, as it provided them with personalised guidance and support.
