The Akwa Ibom Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) held its annual capacity-building workshop on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the NBA Eket branch in Akwa Ibom State.
The workshop, themed “The Dynamics of Legal Practice in Nigeria,” aimed to enhance the professional skills of female lawyers practising in coastal regions, preparing them to adeptly navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the legal profession.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Sifon Sifon Ubong-Ntuk, Esq., the Akwa Ibom State Lead, who set the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions. The chairperson of the event, Associate Professor Idorenyin Eyo, delivered a powerful address that underscored the core qualities essential for a successful female lawyer.
She emphasised the importance of strong analytical skills, sound judgement, effective communication, and robust research abilities, which are crucial for excelling in today’s competitive legal environment.
The workshop featured a distinguished speaker lineup, providing participants with innovative approaches to modern legal practice. Among the notable presenters were Dr Kingsley Ekwere, Rector of the Marine Academy; Sir Sebastian Essien, ACIS; Mr Otu Otu from the Ministry of Justice; and Iniobong Irene Pepple, Secretary of the NBA Women Forum, who represented the NBAWF Chairperson, Chinyere Okorocha.
In addition to the wealth of knowledge shared, the workshop offered a vibrant platform for networking, allowing attendees to forge valuable connections that will contribute to their ongoing professional growth.
The event drew a diverse group of participants, including female lawyers from across Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, Eket branch leaders, past and present branch chairmen, bar leaders, dignitaries, a representative of the Police Force, and Tare Wilfred-Inwang, the Eket branch facilitator.
