NBA Women Forum Leadership Makes Historic Visit to Bayelsa Chapter, Champions Growth and Mentorship

The National Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Mrs. Chinyere Okorocha, and her national secretary, Mrs Irene Ini Pepple, embarked on a historic visit to the Bayelsa State Chapter. They attended the chapter’s third annual law event, themed “Accelerating Growth: The Economic Dynamics of a Woman Lawyer in a Commercialized World.”

The state lead for the NBAWF Bayelsa Chapter, Dr Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry, and her executive committee orchestrated a grand welcome for the esteemed visitors. The three-day legal event featured various activities and novelty matches between Medical Women’s Association members and the NBAWF Bayelsa Chapter members. The event also included an elaborate dinner featuring a magazine launch, an awards night, cultural dances, and attendance by the crème de la crème of the legal community in the state.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Okorocha highlighted the importance of mentorship, training, and peer-to-peer networking among female lawyers. She emphasized that these elements are crucial for confidence building and overcoming limiting beliefs that hold women back in their careers.

The visit also included courtesy visits to significant personalities within the state. Firstly, Mrs. Okorocha and her entourage visited the First Lady of Bayelsa State, Her Excellency Mrs. Gloria Diri. During the visit, Mrs Okorocha shared insights about the forum’s activities since its inception, focusing on mentorship, training, and career advancement for female lawyers.

Her Excellency welcomed the delegation warmly and expressed her desire for strategic collaboration with the forum, aligning their mandate with her initiatives through the TWOT Gloria Diri Foundation.

The delegation also visited the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice Abrakassa Ayemieye, in her official chambers. The Chairperson briefed the Hon. Chief Judge about the forum’s terms of reference, highlighting the distinction between NBAWF and FIDA Nigeria.

Hon. Justice Ayemieye welcomed the delegation warmly and offered motherly advice to all female professionals seeking career advancement in the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice. She pledged her support for the forum’s initiatives moving forward.

Furthermore, the delegation visited the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), where they were warmly received by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe. Mr Ogbe assured the delegation of his commitment to supporting the forum in its future initiatives, reinforcing the board’s dedication to gender inclusion and professional development within the legal sector.

This historic visit by the NBAWF leadership to Bayelsa State marks a significant step in promoting the growth and empowerment of female lawyers, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate and thrive in a commercialised world.
