This journey started on 18 December 2023, when the NBA president inaugurated this committee (ECNBA) to organize and conduct the 2024 election of National Officers and NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar (GCB).
It was a daunting task that demanded huge commitment, sacrifice, and a firm resolve if we were to deliver on our mandate as ECNBA. That was the commitment with which every member of the ECNBA worked and served on this committee over the last 7½ months or so, leading to this climax.
We must express our sincere appreciation to the NBA President, the National Executive Council of the NBA, and our distinguished members of the Bar for the privilege of serving you in this capacity and for your support, cooperation, and faith in the process until its completion.
In executing our mandate, we made tough decisions pursuant to our constitution. We adopted measures and preemptive steps to insulate the electoral process and system from undue interruptions and interference, whether by default or design. Our final report will capture these to guide our future electoral process.
I should comment on the social media report of a candidate’s purported withdrawal during the elections. Please be informed that no notice or letter about this was served on ECNBA. Like everyone else, we read of the purported withdrawal on social media, and it was not addressed to us. We therefore discountenanced it along with posted rebuttals of the withdrawal.
Pursuant to Part X, 2nd Schedule of our NBA constitution, upon conclusion of elections, it is the responsibility of the ECNBA to formally declare the results, which we are now going to do in completing the electoral process we have just carried out.
