NBAWF Ushers in New Era with Inauguration of 2024-2026 Officers and Strategic By-Laws at Annual General Meeting

The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) successfully held its 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. This event, part of the 2024 NBA Annual General Conference, brought together female legal professionals from across Nigeria to celebrate their achievements, introduce new leadership, and outline a visionary path for the future.

The AGM, held at the Chief Anayo J. Offiah, SAN Hall in Lagos, began at 9:00 AM, reflecting the Forum’s commitment to empowering female lawyers and promoting gender equity within the legal profession.

Key Moments and Leadership Transition

A significant highlight of the AGM was Mrs. Chinyere Okorocha’s delivery of the Chairperson’s Report. Her report detailed the Forum’s activities and milestones over the past two years, aligned with her five-point agenda focused on institutional strengthening, capacity building, nationwide recognition, female leadership promotion, and work-life balance initiatives. Okorocha emphasised the strategic use of digital media to expand the forum’s visibility and engagement during her tenure.

Okorocha also recognised the appointment of distinguished legal professionals as Patrons of the NBAWF, including Chief Mrs. Folake Solanke (SAN), Justice Mary Odili CFR, and others, whose contributions to the legal profession have been invaluable. The presentation of the chairperson’s report was met with a standing ovation, underscoring the impact of her leadership.

The Treasurer’s and Auditor’s Reports then disclosed the Forum’s strong financial standing, while the Secretary’s Report emphasised the advancements made by the Forum’s committees, state chapters, and branches. The AGM also marked a significant transition with the inauguration of new officers for the 2024-2026 term, signalling the start of a new era for the NBAWF.

Awards Ceremony and By-laws Unveiling

The AGM featured an inspiring awards ceremony recognising outstanding contributions to the Forum and the legal profession. Honourees included state leads, branch facilitators, and 2023 and 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee members. The outgoing Executive Committee and Governing Council members were also honoured with Awards of Recognition for their dedicated service.
